At the end of 2006, ABS was the third largest class society with a classed fleet of over 10,000 commercial vessels and offshore facilities. ABS' core service is the provision of classification services through the development of standards called ABS Rules. These Rules form the basis for assessing the design and construction of new vessels and the integrity of existing vessels and marine structures.

ClassNK is dedicated to ensuring the safety of life and property at sea, and the prevention of pollution of the marine environment.

ClassNK has earned an outstanding reputation for its long-standing dedication to safeguarding life and property at sea and preventing marine pollution through the establishment of universally recognized standards for the design, construction and maintenance of ships and other marine structures.

The principal work of the Society's expert technical staff is to undertake surveys to ensure that the rules which it has developed are applied to new buildings and existing ships to ensure their safety. The rules cover not only hull structures, but also propulsion systems, electronic systems, safety equipment, cargo handling gear, and various other areas. ClassNK's surveyors work in shipbuilding and repair yards and at ports across the world, wherever they may be called upon to examine the condition of a ship.

The Head Office is located in Tokyo and in Chiba, Japan, and there are branch offices at the major Japanese ports and overseas offices throughout the world. (see Contact us) As of December 2010, the Society had 7,347 ships over 180 million g.t. under class. This figure represents approximately 20 percent of the world merchant fleet currently under class.

Sharjah Seaports Authority, with the support and guidance of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah has always focused on its Maritime needs and invested in facilities ahead of demand. In the recent past the Department has invested in increasing the berths in all its three major ports. The depth at five of the berths in Port Khalid is being increased to 12.0 M, while the cargo storage facilities in Hamriyah port have been extensively developed to increase the open yard storage in excess of 200,000 sq, m. The expansion work has been completed at Khorfakkan port which saw two new berths of 840 M in length commissioned in March 2010 with an alongside depth of 16 M capable of handling the biggest container vessels plying the high seas.

Department of Seaports & Customs, Sharjah, Sharjah Seaports Authority manages the three ports of Sharjah Port Khalid, Port Khorfakkan and Port Hamriyah. The three ports of Sharjah are the leading trade gateway to the UAE and handle all kinds of ships and caroges. The three ports in total have 33 berths, handle in excess of 10 million tons of bulk and general cargo, over 2.5 million TEU's of containerised cargo, around 52000 ro-ro units and over 6500 vessels in a year. Cargo volumes handled have been recording consistently steady growth over the last several years.

Port Khalid a multipurpose port located in the city of Sharjah serves as a vital entry point to the Industrial heart land of UAE.

Hamriyah Port located north of Sharjah and adjacent to the fast growing Hamriyah Free Zone is a deep water port with an alongside depth of 14 M handling general cargo and oil tankers.

Port Khorfakkan a highly efficient container terminal renowned for its productivity is located on the East Coast of UAE which makes it a perfect transshipment hub for the region.

The company was founded in 1915 for the development and production of transmissions for airships and vehicles. Today, the group's product range comprises transmissions and steering systems as well as chassis components and complete axle systems and modules.
